What is Gothia Cup?

The world’s largest youth soccer tournament, drawing over 1,700 teams from over 80 countries. Youth teams from professional academies participate and the general level of play is high. The tournament lasts one week and is held in Gothenburg, Sweden. Teams are guaranteed four games minimum. The tournament runs July 15-21, but our group will arrive in Sweden a week earlier to adjust and spend time in Stockholm.

How will teams be formed?

To ensure an independent and unbiased selection process, FC Royale has arranged for an overseas talent scout to evaluate players on two separate tryout dates. Tryouts are open to all players, regardless of club affiliation or location. These teams are specific to Gothia Cup and will not extend beyond this overseas tournament.

While not all FC Royale players may be offered a spot, we encourage all those that are interested to tryout. We want to stress that this program is highly selective given the competitive nature of the teams that participate in this tournament. If your child is not chosen, our hope is that they will continue to work hard, demonstrate a positive soccer attitude, and aim to be selected for the next trip.

What Age Groups Are ELigible?

The age groups of the 3 teams we plan to take will be the following:

  • 09/08 boys team - 7v7 format (13 players max)

  • 07 boys team - 7v7 format (13 players max)

  • 06 boys team - 9v9 format (16 players max)

When are the tryouts?

Tryouts will be held on the following two days, rain or shine.

Tuesday, December 11th, 6-7:30pm, Beach Chalet, Field 1AB

Saturday, December 15th, 9-11am, Beach Chalet, Field 3AB

What will the trip entail?

This trip is not only about opening our players eyes to the global standard of play, but also exposing them to other cultures and experiences. We are planning this trip with the help of a local soccer scout and FC Royale coach, Chris Harris, who played professionally in Sweden. Their familiarity and knowledge of the area will provide our players with a unique experience and a more streamlined process. The group will start in Stockholm, where they will enjoy a variety of local activities like a walking tour, boat ride, museum, and scrimmages with local academy teams before they take a train to Gothenburg for the Gothia Cup. A detailed potential itinerary can be found below.

Do I need to Travel with my child?

No, there will be coaches (Director of Coaching, David Noii; Chris Harris, Jared Windt) and chaperones with the teams. We will have daily updates through facebook and similar for families to follow the fun! If you are interested in being a chaperone, please contact us. If you and/or your family would like fly to Sweden and tag along with the team, you are more than welcome! Family members would need to arrange their own travel, lodging, and meals.
